This website is created in memory of our beautiful first son Ethan Joshua Murphy, who was born on Monday 20th November 2006 at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital.
Ethan was a much longed for baby after 2 and half very long years of trying and 2 miscarriages, I was delighted to discover I was pregnant again in June 2006.
I had a relatively problem free pregnancy, lots of morning sickness but no real problems. Each scan was an exciting moment for us both, getting to see our baby's heartbeat and kicking like mad.
At 20wks the day of my 3rd scan, my world was somewhat rocked by the news we were given. Ethan was diagnosed with a cleft lip & palate, something they told us they could repair after he was born. We were worried and frightened about what this meant for us but we were assured we would get the best care possible.
We had several more scans after that to ascertain the extent of the problem and we were referred to a specialist at Addenbrookes in Cambridge. All seemed to be well.
I had just taken a weeks holiday from work, followed by a week off when I was unwell.
The day I was due to return to work, I went into sudden premature labour at 24weeks. Luckily it was the early hours of the morning and Adrian hadn't left for work. I called the hospital relatively calm at the time and they told me come straight away.
By the time we arrived at the hospital there wasn't anything they could do to slow down my labour so we prepared ourselves for the arrival of our first child.
My labour progressed very quickly and Ethan became distressed. His heartbeat began to drop and eventually fell to half. At this point they decided to carry out a C-section under general anaesthetic in order to give him a fighting chance of survival.
Ethan was born at 7:46am, pink and gasping for air........
Sadly at 7:52am Ethan gave up his struggle for life, he was just too small and his lungs so underdelveloped and he fell asleep.
We never saw our son alive......there simply wasn't enough time.
When we first met him, he looked so perfect, he just looked like he was asleep. He had his Daddy's eyes and his Mummy's nose. He had the longest eyelashes you can imagine and my red hair. All in all my perfect little bundle.
We had 2 very long and emotional days with our little boy, we cradled him in our arms, we dressed him in blue and we said our goodbyes.
We finally laid him to rest on Monday 4th December at the Vale Cemetery.
For us hello was also goodbye.......you traced a tiny footprint across our hearts, there it will remain forever.

Fly, fly little wing Fly beyond imagining The softest cloud, the whitest dove Upon the wind of heaven's love Past the planets and the stars Leave this lonely world of ours Escape the sorrow and the pain And fly again
Fly, fly precious one Your endless journey has begun Take your gentle happiness Far too beautiful for this Cross over to the other shore There is peace forevermore But hold this mem'ry bittersweet Until we meet
Fly, fly do not fear Don't waste a breath, don't shed a tear Your heart is pure, your soul is free Be on your way, don't wait for me Above the universe you'll climb On beyond the hands of time The moon will rise, the sun will set But I won't forget
Fly, fly little wing Fly where only angels sing Fly away, the time is right Go now, find the light
